Burn After Reading

Sat Night: Absolutely no job..

Some one suggests, how about a movie ?.

Yeah! we are on..

Basically 4 choices..

1. Righteous Kill (dropped for the not-so great reviews, though I personally wanted to see the legends share the screen).

2. Burn After Reading (Coen brothers!)

3. Lake View Terrace (somebody doesn’t like Samuel L Jackson).

4. Tropic Thunder (a bit old now)

So after the usual deliberations and rounds of discussions, a semi consensus was formed.

Since it is a Burn after Reading article, no prizes for guessing.

As the tag-line goes “Intelligence is relative”, the movie revolves around .. No spoilers sorry..

Watch the movie if you are a Coen Brothers fan.

Else there is every chance you are gonna end up crying “What an arbit movie?”.

Though Fargo did not impress me, No Country was a revelation..

So I could identify with their style of film making. Go for it if you have a taste for dark humour and wanna catch Brad Pitt pulling off some awesome expressions, as well as Clooney and Malkovich coming up with some good performances..But my vote goes to Frances McDormand for her potrayal of the gym instructor who badly needs money for her cosmetic operations, since she is ‘ a people person’ .

At one level, it makes us think of our basic human folly : We need something badly and the kind of things we are ready to do to achieve it. Its not that we willfully pursue those actions, but at one point we feel it is the right decision even if it compromises the rules of honesty and integrity.

This was the second movie I watched on the big screen in US after the epic Dark Knight on Imax.

Going by the box office results, this movie is on the top of the list, therefore must have easily covered the production cost.

I am forced to add this : The views represented here are those of the author and is not anyway related to a public review. If it changes your view on this movie, the author shall not be held responsible.

Chirutha Fever…

Ajay George Blog

The first time ever a Telugu movie is featuring on this blog…

Mega Star’s Son… Ram Charan Teja’s debut… (does it get any bigger?)

But this is aptly justified by the kind of excitement we experienced in the past few days…

Big posters have sprung up all over Fatima Nagar and Hanamkonda. The Ajay George Blog team caught up with the district committee members of the Cherry Fan’s Club. They shared their happiness and excitement with us.This is the first time an actor is already a star without even the film releasing. We also interviewed some of the young fans at NIT Warangal. They too shared their happiness, but however were sad at the fact that they failed to get tickets for Chirutha FDFS. Already Mani Sharma’s peppy numbers are rocking the entire Andhra.Box office darling Puri Jagannadh’s direction would be one of the greatest assets of the movie.

Add to that yesterday’s glamorous premiere at the Prasads Multiplex in Hyderabad, with all the demi-gods coming down to witness just one spectacle, the Chirutha fever rose to new heights….

We wish all the best for the Chirutha Team…

from the first reports coming in Chirutha seems to be a smash hit…

Baba Kalyani : Review (First on Net)

Baba Kalyani

The story revolves around the conspiracy to conduct a massive terrorist attack in the sensitive areas of the country and as the officer of the Anti Terrorist Squad code named ‘ M 3 ‘ (no, SN Swamy was not inspired by Bond ! :) ), Baba Kalyani IPS (Mohan Lal) is in command of the situation and hunts down the terrorists.

Expecting another invincible police officer fighting terrorists and lots of high adrenaline pumping action.?…you are mistaken. The thrill ends with the story line, the actual implentation on the screen is a dragging movie, interspersed with a budding romance, shades of vendetta and lots of mafia (director’s fav).

SN Swamy seems to be loosing his midas touch. The downfall started with CBI 4 and continued with Balram and reached a culmination in Baba Kalyani. The story is easily predictable and lacks that tautness one usually feels in a Shaji Kailas movie.

Mohanlal has given his best and has lived upto the character given by his dir and script writer. The dialogues were blunt and lacked vigour. The movie seemed to get diverted in between and to kill time, Kailas brings up a romance and motherly love theme.Mamta,Murali,Innocent,Maniyanpilla Raju,Bindu Panicker,Vineeth all wasted in the movie.Jagathy with his unparalleled humour entertains the audience in the first half. The second half is more serious and deals with busting the terrorists.Indrajith and Saikumar came up with a note-worthy perfomance.

Rating : 5/10

Verdict : Go for the movie if you are a die hard Lalettan fan, otherwise there are better things to do.

Classmates : A Lateral Thought..

Classmates

Hailed as the biggest hit in the Malayalam Film Industry and nearing its 100th day, the movie created a sort of revolution bringing the idiot box watching, ‘pirated’ (read thirrutu VCD watching !) malayalee to the box and saving the industry from a major crisis.
Let me share some thoughts that whizzed through me while watching the movie. The movie is set in the 1990-1991 period and Lal Jose has done justice to the film by placing the right ‘ time ‘ elements.Mobile phones were absent and most of the students wore mundu add to the authenticity of the movie.
But the director and the script writer did forget some very basic elements. The strangulation marks on the Prithvi’s neck should suggest a murder rather than a suicide. It was not hanging by the ceiling in which the person who commits suicide has no control after the process starts.Whereas in this case the person is alive after the so called suicide attempt which should definitely suggest a murder.Another point is the absence of the mention of choloroform in the post mortem report of Naren. The most interesting fact which left me laughing was the point when Prithvi confesses to attempting suicide to the police officer. The officer is happy over the fact that it was asuicide attempt and chides Balachandra Menon for his mentioning of possibility of a murder earlier in the film.

Definitely the citizen has the freedom to commit suicide but the officer forgot the fact that a suicide attempt is a punishable offence!.
