Miracle Entertainment presents The Doctor Despite Himself

This is my first post related to Bangalore, the city where I currently reside and I am planning to run a series of stuff I like, dislike ,upcoming events and whatever random stuff that comes to my mind about this city.

To start with I would like to introduce a theatre group by the name of Miracle Entertainment.

The Bangalore based Miracle Entertainment theatre group is staging a play called “The Doctor Despite Himself” on the 3rd and 4th April at Alliance Francaise at Bangalore. The group was formed in November 2007 and has performers from all walks of life, to give it a special aroma.

Summary: Not every Frenchman could poke fun at his king and get away with it. But then, not all Frenchmen were Moliere. One of the greatest comedy playwrights ever, Moliere didn’t manage to get away with poking fun at almost everything that deserved to made fun of, but he actually got away with standing ovations. His most famous work, The Doctor Despite Himself is a striking parody of the world of doctors and physicians. The protagonist, a simple woodcutter, finds himself in the position of having to pretend to be a doctor and manages to pull it off quite beautifully, even with all the quirky incidents that befall him. An absolute must-watch!

The group’s previous plays include Death by Woody Allen, Comically Incorrect by Anton Chekhov, God by Woody Allen, and Seduction by Niel Simon.

If I get some time on my plate, I am gonna definitely check it out.

Say hello to Bespin from the house of Mozilla.
It is an online code editor and much more.
I can easily say that this is one of the best innovative ideas I have seen in some time.

Getting hit by the bug, decided to play around with the APIs.
The Java API called Twitter4j , which is a wrapper around the Twitter API is pretty good. Its as simple as calling an update method for updating your twitter status..

Burn After Reading

Sat Night: Absolutely no job..

Some one suggests, how about a movie ?.

Yeah! we are on..

Basically 4 choices..

1. Righteous Kill (dropped for the not-so great reviews, though I personally wanted to see the legends share the screen).

2. Burn After Reading (Coen brothers!)

3. Lake View Terrace (somebody doesn’t like Samuel L Jackson).

4. Tropic Thunder (a bit old now)

So after the usual deliberations and rounds of discussions, a semi consensus was formed.

Since it is a Burn after Reading article, no prizes for guessing.

As the tag-line goes “Intelligence is relative”, the movie revolves around .. No spoilers sorry..

Watch the movie if you are a Coen Brothers fan.

Else there is every chance you are gonna end up crying “What an arbit movie?”.

Though Fargo did not impress me, No Country was a revelation..

So I could identify with their style of film making. Go for it if you have a taste for dark humour and wanna catch Brad Pitt pulling off some awesome expressions, as well as Clooney and Malkovich coming up with some good performances..But my vote goes to Frances McDormand for her potrayal of the gym instructor who badly needs money for her cosmetic operations, since she is ‘ a people person’ .

At one level, it makes us think of our basic human folly : We need something badly and the kind of things we are ready to do to achieve it. Its not that we willfully pursue those actions, but at one point we feel it is the right decision even if it compromises the rules of honesty and integrity.

This was the second movie I watched on the big screen in US after the epic Dark Knight on Imax.

Going by the box office results, this movie is on the top of the list, therefore must have easily covered the production cost.

What a weekend it had been.

Two of the major investment banks are out.

Lehman filing a chapter 11 petition for bankruptcy, and Merril getting sold to BofA.

The week started with lots of surprises..

AIG getting taken over by the Gov and the other major investment banks GS and Morgan coming out with their 3rd quarter results with clear plunge in profits..

Damn those short sellers who are bringing down the Wall St.

There was a scramble for Gold and Cash today..
